Jim Thorpe and Olbermann
Here is the Oddball segment from Countdownyesterday. Pay attention only to the first 1:20 or so. Olbermann gives a lot of respect to Jim Thorpe in response to the whole “Michael Phelps is the greatest” crowd. Thorpe was amazing.
Tonight’s non-Phelps Olympic highlight
Tom Hammond referring to Jamaican 100m gold medalist Usain Bolt as a “monstrously long specimen.”
Drooling in the pool
This article by ESPN’s Mary Buckheit about why she’s rooting for Ryan Lochte over Michael Phelps in tonight’s 200 IM final really cracked me up. She pretty clearly has a big time crush on Mr. Lochte.
It’s just that there’s something I loved Ryan Lochte. …
Relaxed in a folding chair, from beneath a drape of wet curls, he talked softly and unhurriedly. He told us about himself, “a clown who surfs Daytona Beach.” He fielded questions about his imaginative drawings and skateboard injuries.
I told him I liked his brown Wallabees that he somehow pulls off with red mesh Speedo shorts and a T-shirt. “Yeah, old-school Clarks, they’re sweet, right?” he concurred.
Way to maintain high journalistic standards.
Anyway, I’m rooting for Phelps in the final which will be in only about 20 minutes. Should be exciting.
