Archive for the ‘Ted Stevens’ tag
It’s a federal pound-me-in-the-ass penitentiary
Since our blog’s title was inspired by Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, I thought it appropriate to note his conviction today on seven felony charges of concealing a quarter-million dollars in gifts.
My favorite quote from the trial:
“We have lots of things in our house that don’t belong to us,” Stevens said when a prosecutor asked him about the [$2,700 massage] chair.
Farewell, Senator.
Things have to be looking up for Stevens’s opponent in next week’s election, Mark Begich.
Stevens Issues a Statement on Palin
Senator Stevens has issued this statement about the Palin selection.
“I have known and worked with Sarah for over a decade – from her service as Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, in her role as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors, and most recently as our Governor. She is attentive to her job and family, brings people together, and is able to make tough decisions.”
Seems awfully friendly, eh?
Who is that introducing Sarah Palin?
She has had some corruption/ethical issues of her own in Alaska.
Here is our guy, Ted Stevens, introducing and supporting Sarah Palin.
I wonder to what extent the corruption of the Republican Party in Alaska will impact her national ambitions. She seems to have a record, however, of calling for government reform and has been tough on old Ted regarding his recent ethical issues.
Our Guy Makes it to the General
Ted Stevens won his primary battle. Polls show Stevens trailing his opponent, Democrat Mark Begich, in most of the polls. If Stevens is found guilty, the Republicans are in deep trouble up there. Enough to move the state to Obama? I don’t know, but I still think Obama should visit.
Our Guy’s New Ad
Sorry for so many videos, but here is another one.
I hope he wins the Republican nomination. I think that will mean a Dem will take the senate seat and will strengthen Obama’s chances of winning that state. I hope he takes the time to visit there.
Iowa
Obama is going to win this state. Selling out and voting for a flawed Farm Bill may prove to be useful.
Update: I don’t want a separate post on Alaska right now, but…Obama may also win Alaska. Stevens and the Republicans have been just corrupt enough to leave that state vulnerable to the Dems. If Obama visits there once, I think he’ll win it. Via The Politico, interesting endorsement here.
Our Inspiration
While this is very old, I think that given the title of our blog here, it is appropriate to share this video. A nice little stroll down memory lane. It will be sad not to have Ted in the Senate anymore.
